Double Chocolate Nutella Toffee Skillet Brownie
This Double Chocolate Nutella Toffee Skillet Brownie will make you swoon and drool with ultra soft, extra chocolatey batter and full of toffee pieces!
Dish Count :: 1 Skillet, 1 Mixing Bowl, 1 Whisk or Spoon

Waking up at 4 am is really a trying thing. Sure, you get used to it. Kinda. But when you get so used to it, that you wake up at 3:30 and psych yourself into staying away or else you will somehow, miss your alarm that has never failed you, so just lay there and stew over everything known to man, well – you know Monday is going to be a good day.
So what pray tell fills my head at 0’dark thirty? Well, a skillet brownie for one.

Can I possibly get my hair to do this double pony tail? Lol, nope.
Can I reheat that stuffed artichoke for lunch? Yup, this is going to be revived food obsession.
Oh, don’t forget to clean the dogs ears today – dang those allergies!
I think Huck needs a Sven reindeer friend. The Frozen characters obviously need to be real.
How many eye primers will I have to go through before I find the perfect one? Urban Decay feels like acid on my eye lids, Sonia Kashuk feels like putting on plaster, and NP works enough, but it definitely lackluster. HALP.
All Monday’s should begin with a double chocolate Nutella toffee skillet brownie. It definitely calls for a skillet brownie.

There aren’t many things that render a grown woman speechless, but this brownie is definitely on the list of things to do it. And my speechlessness was validated by my best friend, when dove spoon first into the skillet like two lions over a brownie zebra. It was mayhem. Then naturally, we washed it all down with a bottle of wine. Classy.

Even Ben got in on that action, and kept going back for more – proclaiming that I need to bake from scratch more often. WUT? *Throws side eye* Stop, try that again Sweet Man. There was no walking that back no matter how hard he tried. So Beka and I just sat back and watched it happen. And it was hilarious.

You want comedy – watch a man back peddle from telling his wife who bakes and cooks for a living that she doesn’t back from scratch enough… It’s really cute.
And it’s a good thing he is really cute because I didn’t go lion over a zebra over him for speaking such things. I just dug into the brownie and used chocolate to temper the fire. It worked. Ben lived to see another day.

I can’t say the same for the brownie. It never stood a chance. We are brownie killers.

- Prep Time: 10 minutes
- Cook Time: 30 minutes
- Total Time: 40 minutes
- Yield: 1 10″ brownie 1x
- Category: Dessert
- Method: Baked
- Cuisine: American
Description
This Double Chocolate Nutella Toffee Skillet Brownie will make you swoon and drool with ultra soft, extra chocolatey batter and full of toffee pieces!
Ingredients
- 1/2 cup Butter, melted and cooled
- 3/4 cup Nutella, or chocolate hazelnut spread
- 1/2 cup Brown Sugar or Coconut Sugar
- 1/2 cup Sugar
- 2 Eggs
- 1 tsp Vanilla
- 1 tsp Baking Soda
- 1/2 tsp Salt
- 1 2/3 cups Flour
- 2 Tbsp Cocoa Powder
- 1 cup Semi-Sweet Chocolate Chips
- 1/2 cup Toffee Pieces, like Heath Bits o’ Toffee
Instructions
Two Bowl Directions::
- Preheat oven to 350 degrees. In a large bowl with a whisk or spatula, butter, Nutella, brown and white sugar, eggs, and vanilla until smooth. Stir in the flour, salt and baking soda until a batter forms.
- Stir in 3/4 of the chocolate chips and 1/4 cup of the toffee pieces.
- Spoon the batter into a oven proof skillet, cast iron or stainless steel that has been sprayed with non-stick spray. Even the batter out and press to within 1/2″ of the edges of the skillet – the brownie will spread out, but leave the room between the batter and the sides of the skillet so the edges don’t over cook.
- Top with remaining chocolate chips and toffee bits. Place in oven and bake for 20-25 minutes or until the edges are set and a toothpick placed in the middle of the brownie comes out clean. (Check – timing depends on the oven)
- Let the brownie cool on a wire rack in the skillet until just warm – about 45 minutes. It will still be very soft in the middle, but as it cools, the brownie will set entirely.
- Drizzle with additional softened Nutella if desired, or ice cream!
ONE SKILLET Directions::
- In your cast iron skillet, whisk together flour, cocoa powder, baking soda, and salt. Create a well in the middle of the pan.
- Into the well, add in the butter, Nutella, brown sugar, white sugar, eggs, and vanilla and gently whisk those together – and begin slowly incorporating and folding in the flour mixture.
- Add in chocolate chips and toffee pieces, gently folding in.
- Bake according to directions above. Drizzle with softened nutella if desired.

A few things: I love that you included a dish count. My dog has ear allergies, too. Ugh! MAC makes a great primer. I have uber sensitive skin, and it’s the only one that doesn’t make me want to rip my eyeballs out. That is the coolest whisk. I’m speechless. You should win a prize or something, because that never happens. Nom!
Aren’t the puppy ear allergies the worst? I feel so bad for our poor pups – but they sure are the best aren’t they?!
Oh – and the whisk is the dough whisk from King Arthur Flour. It’s my FAVORITE for cookie doughs and batters. Hands down.
Pinning this and making it for sure – this looks/sounds amazing!!
Thanks Danielle! It was worth ever minute I have to spend on the treadmill later!
DEAR GOD, WOMAN!! I want this whole skillet to myself!! Mmmmm!
I’m sorry? Nope, just kidding. I’m totally not. Do it – eat the whole thing – and don’t waste one second regretting it. haha
I want to dig into this gooey skillet brownie goodness like it’s my job.
Yup – dig a spoon right into the middle of it. Because that’s what champions do.
Love a recipe that uses minimal equipment and can easily get from raw ingredients to ready to be devoured!
Yes – I am a recent convert to the coconut sugar – and it made a great flavor to the batter. I’m sold on it as an alternate to regular brown sugar!
That whisk is adorable. I repeat, ADORABLE. I want it!! Recipes that don’t require many dishes are always the best. Baking always requires so many dishes, and loads of flour, sugar disasters on the counter. Love this idea. Pinned for later. Thanks for the recipe, Happy Monday 🙂
I love the whisk too – it’s the dough whisk from King Arthur Flour!! It’s my favorite on cookie doughs and batters – it’s a machine!! (so to speak 😉 )
SHUT THE FRONT DOOR.
And all the windows, shutters, and blinds – I know – I went over board. Or did I? 🙂
Oh man I would make this just for me and no one else. That is right, I wouldn’t share.
Holy delicious!! This skillet brownie looks so chewy and fudgy. YUM!
Speechless. Want. Pinned.
I’m speechless. Pinned.
I wish my Monday had one of these skillet brownies!
You deserve this every day of the week if you’re waking up at 4 am. Holy cow! I’d also like to start every morning for the rest of my life with this skillet of chocolate-y goodness.
This looks SO good!!
Making this asap!! LOVE!
Hey girl hey girl hey… this is ah-mazing!!!
Oh man! Toffee and nutella… two of my weaknesses. In one perfectly gigantic brownie. I love you for this recipe!
Awww – thanks Sally!! Grab a spoon girlfriends let’s dig in!!
This looks delicious—-its chocolate, so of course its wonderful. What I really really really liked about your post was you and your friend devouring it African style with a bottle of wine. Ha—my kind of women! Chocolate and red wine go together—–so it was the right thing to do.
love this. love the new site.
If only my Monday would have had this in it, it would have been a million and one time better! Amazed by this gorgeous skillet!
I am seeing all these skillet recipes: skillet brownies, skillet pizza, skillet cookie.. and I keep telling myself: I need to get on this skillet craze! This looks SO good!
Good gracious I want to SWIM in that skillet. Dontcha just love when husbands put their foot in their mouth? Fun for all! 🙂
You just made my week 10 gazillion times better with the chocolatey skillet business! Love it!!
Pinned and Plussed! Looks SO good!
I hate you and love you at the same time for posting this!
Wow! I love your new site design! I especially love that you kept the white wood from your old design, too! It’s so you 🙂
Love this brownie skillet. Probably a little too much ::stomach growls::

dove spoon first into the skillet like two lions over a brownie zebra
Best. Line. Ever. I am SO using it when I bake this brownie!!!
LOVE this recipe!! Sharing everywhere 🙂
Yum is right. Ditto for the whisk. I see one in my future. And last but not least do you have different cast iron for sweet and one for savory?
Love the site facelife, congrats!!!
Also, this recipe. How could you do this to me? (subtext: I love you.)
Divine. I used to be an early riser for work-related reasons, and while I acknowledge that I should consider this again, I love rolling over into the soft covers and closing my eyes tight.
Oh. Man. This looks incredible.
Pinning for my next wine night with my ladies!
Sounds yummy. Don’t have a skillet, can it be made in a pyrex pan?
Now this is my kind of brownie! Though I’d have to fight off my 17 year old son, since he’s a Nutella addict. I swear, he needs rehab.
This may be the most fabulous thing I’ve ever seen cooked in a cast iron skillet!
Hello Happiness! I so want need this! I so happy that I have a skillet handy to try this!
This is gorgeous!! Who can resist a warm brownie? I surely canNOT.
I have been dreaming about this for the last 24 hours when I first saw you post this. I am making it now- when do I add the cocoa powder?
Obviously I need to buy more Nutella. That is all.
YUMMO! This looks so good. Will this work in another pan? Or round corningware dish? I’m scared to try it in something else afraid it will be dry but I don’t have a cast iron skillet or anything similar.
Yum! What size iron skillet did you use?
LOVE , LOVE this yummy:):):)
Late to the party, but this looks divine! And try Benefit’s eyelid primer. Good coverage, but doesn’t feel like mud on your eyes.

As far as eyeshadow primer, I love the ones from Too Faced. I normally use Candlelight:
http://www.ulta.com/ulta/browse/productDetail.jsp?productId=xlsImpprod2980103
This gives a nice bit of shimmer, but it sets super-fast, so if it’s early in the morning, and you’re like me, you might get a smudge that won’t budge on your cheekbone or browbone! Also, the shine can tend to show through dark (matte) colors.
http://www.ulta.com/ulta/browse/productDetail.jsp?productId=prod360018
It may seem obsessive, but I would suggest buying a tube of both the matte and the Candlelight, and using the Candlelight for light and shimmery colors, and the matte for darker colors. But that comes from an artist and primer dork like me 😛
Also maybe try their Champagne color (I haven’t tried it yet):

This looks amazing!
However, I have one question, could i make this without the toffee? Would it still taste as great? My family isn’t a big fan of toffee.
You can Totally make this without toffee and it will still be KILLER!! I know you and your family will love it!! Please come back and let me know how it turns out!!
What size is the skillet?? Someone asked previously but it wasn’t answered..
Nvm it says makes one 10″brownie.. being a baker myself I would like to use ferrero candies instead of toffee which would most definitely compliment the nutella chocolate hazelnut profile much better..what do you think? My other half agrees that it would be better…
I have of late developed a major obsession with baking. AND this is the only recipe that turned out exactly like the images(and the description) that you have posted! Digging into this gob of chocolatey heaven was extremely gratifying! All thanks to your sleepless night of binge baking!!
I am so pleased that it was a HIT!!!
This is in the oven now! Just wanted to let you know, you forgot to mention the cocoa powder in the directions. We added it with the flour.
Oh, thank you so much Allison!! I hope it turned out for you!! And I’ll make sure to go back and add in the cocoa powder instruction. Whoops!!
Just wondering, what can you put it in if you do not have a cast iron skillet? My daughter will go bananas
for this!
Hi Natalie, You can make this in a regular baking pan as well – the skillet isn’t ‘required’ it’s just a nice touch. A 9×9 inch pan should work, you may need to extend the baking time a few additional minutes to make sure it bakes properly. About 5 minutes extra should do it.

If I omit or substitute the Nutella will this still have the rich chocolate fudge heaven taste and texture? And if substitution is necessary, what do you suggest I use? Thank you!
Hi Georgia! I wish I could say you could omit the Nutella, but don’t! Or, if you really don’t want the Nutella you can sub in melted ganache (melted chocolate and butter) to get a similar texture.
