Everyone has a love language. Some people love gift giving to show their love, others perform acts of service for someone else—doing chores or getting groceries for someone else who may need help.

My love language is food based and putting my time into something for others—namely, baking. High-quality food is my love language, and it brings me a deep sense of satisfaction and gratification when the people I care for eat and love what they are eating. But beyond that, the time and effort that goes into it is what I like about it.

And it’s now something I can do with my son and build that connection for him as well. To get started with baking, I head to my local Safeway to pick up Challenge Butter for our dishes.

Don’t get me wrong, baking with a toddler is not easy breezy! But his curiosity and independence are starting to show, and he insists on being involved in every step, from getting out ingredients to pouring, stirring, pressing, and most of all, tasting.

Being so little, he is frustrated (and voices it!) when he can’t see what is going on above him.

I ordered him a helping tower to get him to counter level, and he is up there every chance he gets.

For the holiday season, I want to make sure there are plenty of recipes and treats we can make together.

These riff on the tried-and-true holiday favorites, the Seven Layer Magic Bar, are a peppermint lover’s dream, with cool peppermint, white and bittersweet chocolate, walnuts, and sweet coconut. And everything is held together by the essential graham cracker crust with Unsalted Challenge Butter.

Luckily, everything is easy to find at my local Safeway. I can find all the ingredients I need in a snap and not dawdle around.

These 7-Layer White Chocolate Peppermint Magic Bars are easy with the graham crackers, chocolate chips, and nuts down the baking aisle, and the Challenge Butter in the refrigerated section, I’m done quick. Or, you can always shop the Safeway mobile app, which I find super helpful, and just pick up right at the store!
