One of the things I have been struggling with (if “struggling” is the right word?) is that being knocked up means people are very uncomfortable drinking around you if you used to be a former drinker. It’s roughly the equivalent of what I imagine someone who is fighting sobriety goes through. It’s not the drinking itself that makes me uncomfortable, but that others have tiptoed around me, or assumed that I can’t go to a bar and be social with my friends because I’m pregnant. Like somehow being around booze will give my growing tater tot a problem. *eye roll*
I’m a people person and I want to be WITH my people.
Bringing a healthy kid into the world is a great reason to give up my barely-once-a-week glass of wine, but it’s also no excuse to give up being social and doing the things I used to do with others.

Is this pregnancy hormones making me unreasonable? I’m not sure. But it’s definitely a trend I’ve noticed the last few months.
So, since I wasn’t able to imbibe in the traditional Cinco de Mayo margaritas I had my eyes on – and I fell asleep on the couch at 7 pm before I could even consider making a virgin one for myself – I whipped up these strawberry guava mint agua frescas and absolutely fell head over heels in love.
Guava juice is basically my life blood when I am in Hawaii, and I will chug it with a beer bong if given the option.
I had a hankering for it, mixed with some fresh berries as a good mocktail substitute and hoped beyond hope that it would taste as good in real life as it did in my imaginings…and you know what.
IT WAS BETTER! I can only say that for those who can drink, it would be utterly splendid with a shot of tequila in it, too. But I will be making these again and again this summer to keep me cool, hydrated, and feeling like one of the people I used to be.
