Homemade Taco Seasoning
Taco Tuesday can be every day of the week now! Have a batch of this homemade taco seasoning on hand all year long!
Dish Count :: 1 Bowl, Measuring Spoons

We found a sure fire way to get anyone you know to spill their guts and darkest secrets with this sweet concoction made from the fruity and boozy goodness leftover from our family Brandied Fruit Cake. But thankfully over Christmas I didn’t need to invoke the sweet nectar to get my mom to give up all our family favorite recipes… like we do with other members of our family. She gave them all up willingly, and I snapped up every single one I could, including this homemade taco seasoning. It’s the same one I used in yesterday’s Taco Pull Apart Bread recipe and video!
The ingredients are simple, whole, and preservative free. Mix and match the ingredients to suit your taste. But this is a great jumping off point for your own version if you choose.
I think next time it would be really perfect with a little chipotle for that smoky flavor if you’re interested. Tricky, tricky!

Don’t be alarmed by the amount of dried minced onion, it’s totally not over powering or anything when you get it in the mix. Trust me.
The ingredients list includes dried minced onion, oregano, powdered garlic, cumin, chili pepper, onion salt, beef boullion, and corn starch for a little thickening to the sauce.
Pretty simple, right? Next, just mix it all together and BAM! It is done!
I multiplied this recipe several times to make a hearty batch to always have on hand. You can store it in an air tight mason jar, in your cupboard. Try this and see what you think next Taco Tuesday, or whenever you need to make a little Taco Pull Apart Bread. So, like tomorrow? Yeah, tomorrow is good.

I am all for homemade seasonings. I find that so many of the ones that are pre-made have junk in them! And that way you know the spices are extra fresh too. Thanks for sharing your recipe! xo
This taco seasoning sounds so good!
Nothing beats a homemade seasoning! I use so much taco mix, I started making my own too! I need to try your addition of beef boullions – sounds perfect!Â
We’re always buying Taco Seasoning to keep it in the party for taco night and enchiladas! We’ll have to make some of this Homemade Taco Seasoning to have on hand instead! Â
I know buying packaged seasoning mixes is convenient, but homemade ones are so easy to make plus you know exactly what is in them. I think I’m going to make a batch of this taco seasoning today!
Yeah, those packages are always handy – but make extra of this to keep on hand! 🙂 Thanks, Danae!
I actually just made a new batch of my taco seasoning last night as I used it all up last week! I like that you use dried onion as my recipe just uses onion powder. Although mine does not use beef boullion which is something I might try next time.
The beef boullion just adds a little extra punch to the mix, it’s really nice. I hope you like it, ERin!
This sounds so much better than what you get from a package. Â and I like how you can control the flavors you want more or less of in it!
Exactly!! This is a good blend to start with and then customize your own. Thanks Cheryl!
I usually buy those little packets of taco seasoning, but I am loving your homemade version so much better! 🙂
Oh yeah, those packets are so easy to use – but it’s so much more fun to really create your own custom blend!
I don’t even remember the last time I bought an actual packet of taco seasoning  – homemade all the way!!Â
I’m the same way – never going back to the packet after this!
Ooh this is perfect! I love making my own seasoning blends!
Thank you, Michelle. A good spice blend is always a cook’s best friend.
So glad to have this recipe, Megan. I’m always using taco seasoning in recipes and this looks better and more convenient than store bought. And cheers to your mom for sharing!
Thanks, Allie!! This is definitely a keeper – it’s the perfect blend of spicy.
I love taco seasoning and homemade with organic spices is even better!!
Absolutely – I love know what spices and ingredients are going into my mixes!
In love making my homemade taco seasoning I love your suggestion to use chipolte~
