DIY Starbucks Protein Boxes
Save money, eat healthy, and get a filling breakfast that last you until lunch! These DIY Starbucks protein boxes can be prepped ahead for your whole week’s breakfast, saving you those precious morning minutes.
Being from Seattle, I’m as much a fan of Starbucks as the next hippie, rain loving, half caff, no foam, one-pump-of-sugar-free-vanilla, weirdo out there. But on the busy mornings where I find myself running out of the house without breakfast (oh the humanity!), I am not just at Starbucks to grab a quick cup of coffee, I bee-line right for the grab and go to pick up a protein box to eat when I get to work.
The only problem with this, is that my mornings seem to be running by faster and faster, and remembering to prep a breakfast is harder and harder. And well, paying $5.50 for one breakfast adds up fast. We’re house hunting right now, I have to save those dollars for that dream home! So I started putting together my own DIY Starbucks Protein Boxes on Sundays. It’s a cinch, and I am saving some serious money.
There are things that I could do to even keep it cheaper! I grab little squeeze packs of my favorite peanut and almond butters. Wild Friends is one of my favorites! The chocolate coconut peanut butter is definitely my top choice. At 99 cents they are convenient. If you want to forgo them, pack your own 2 tablespoons of peanut butter and save even more money! I just like variety, so I get a new PB every day.
Then there is my sliced quarter of an apple. Once I calculated it out, my daily quarter apple costs me 41 cents. I buy the expensive honeycrisps because Ben likes them, but even these can be made cheaper with economizing your apple selection. For 75 cents each, I get my english muffins. These are whole wheat 100 calorie english muffins.
And then the egg. A protein whopper. For a whole 16 cents, I can prep a week’s worth of hardboiled eggs. My chosen method is from Simply Recipes hard boiled eggs. They have not failed me yet!
Add in a handful of grapes cost me 42 cents per day. Pick your favorite variety. For 16 cents a slice, I get my favorite part of the protein box – CHEESE!
So totalled up, it’s less than $3 to make my own DIY Starbucks protein box. These keep me full all morning long, saves me money, and it’s one less stop for me to make on those manic mornings.
