There comes a point in every vacation that you are ready to be home. And it doesn’t matter how much fun you had on vacation, but coming home is always the sweetest part. Not seeing Ben for five days is a long stretch for me, and it was disappointing to have missed him on my way home and his way to work. The closest we have been in five days was passing each other on the freeway going in opposite directions. But tonight, that will all be set right.

It was while I was flying over eastern Washington though, that the whole thing really hit me. And I admit, I got a little teary.
It’s been no secret that our hearts and forever home is eastern Washington, out on the Palouse. It’s where I feel most free, and want to set down roots after what feels like five years of waiting. And since patience is not my biggest virtue (eating definitely is), being so close to home, even at 36,000 feet up, was tough. If only there had been a way to ask the pilot to just drop me off right there, and have Ben and Huck driven to me, that would have been sublime.
Life in Seattle has been wonderful, and it’s where our friends and family are. But calling it “home”, is the farthest thing from it actually being home. Even considering I grew up here, it’s just not the same. I’m ready for a new adventure, to start our family, and focus on growing that part of my life with Ben. There are many, many new and exciting things in the works behind the scenes here at the blog. I hope that soon we can really take this show on the road so I can cultivate these new adventures and give them the time and energy they deserve.

My dreams aren’t too big, but they need to be carried out. I’m the worst person at sitting still, and waiting to make dreams a reality is the hardest part of the whole process. I’m ready to focus on me, and my family. And really start that life, back home.
In the mean time, you can count on me cooking up a storm, and you will be seeing me around the web in a few other locations soon. But for now, start Monday off right with these Cantaloupe margaritas. I recently found the most incredible Italian cantaloupe melons in the store that were bursting with flavor. It’s as if they were grown specifically for these margaritas. Add in a little silver tequila, and some mint if you’re feeling daring. It’s like a mojito and a margarita has a beautiful melon baby.
Try some other cocktails, too! Here are my other favorites! There is no such thing as a bad margarita, and definitely add these cantaloupe margaritas to your summer cocktail list!

I’ve always felt that where you live really defines you. I left college in Upstate NY to go to a school in Boston because I realized that my surroundings didn’t fulfill my needs. I needed to be in a city with culture. With museums. With concert venues. With diversity. Anyway… point is, I feel ya.
These margaritas look amazing and refreshing and just what I need… right now.
