I have never been one to sleep in. Annoyingly enough, I am an early bird who usually wakes before dawn and is ready to tackle the day. I don’t know if this is a conditioned trait, as my step-dad would always wake my sister and I up no later than 7am on weekends, with a hearty “Time to get up! We’re burning daylight!” or if this is just part of my personality. There are days I long to sleep in but some days, like Christmas morning, I love it.

Waking up when all is still peaceful, sitting in front of the Christmas tree in the quiet hours, and sipping my coffee in comfy sweatpants and a big sweatshirt is the epitome of my year.

Then… well, things start to shift. The rustling of a toddler eager for the day starts to disrupt the calm, the dog wants breakfast at 5am on the dot, little sounds start the roar of the day, and now it’s time to hit the ground running. The excitement, cheer, warmth, laughter, and glee is all there.

I’m all for making the holidays as stress-free as possible so this year, I will be setting up a breakfast biscuit bar with all the fixings for everyone to assemble their own customized biscuits with Jimmy Dean® Refrigerated Roll Sausage patties and Jimmy Dean® Hickory Smoked Bacon. I grabbed both at my local Safeway in the refrigerated breakfast case. With an array of eggs, sausage, bacon, biscuits, various cheeses, veggies, and sauces, everyone can have their perfect Christmas breakfast, allowing them to bring them into the living room so we don’t miss a minute of Christmas morning together.

The way I show my love is feeding those around me and making sure that we have something hearty to fill us up throughout the day. The smell of Christmas breakfast always makes me smile, with hot coffee, eggs, bacon, and sausage at the ready. We have always used Jimmy Dean® Roll Sausage in our house. My mom worked at Safeway for over 30 years and would bring home Jimmy Dean® roll sausage or bacon for our weekend breakfasts, knowing it was always there in the grocery case. With signature seasonings and high quality pork, it’s our go-to choice—completely ingrained in my family’s breakfast traditions.

So, as much as cooking is my labor of love, I don’t want to spend my time away from family while cooking in the kitchen and missing all the memories being made! Keep it simple and flavorful this holiday season with a breakfast biscuit bar and lots of smiles.

Mix and match your favorite flavors in a DIY Breakfast Biscuit Bar. Set out an array of cheeses, sauces, and toppings for everyone to create their own custom biscuit sandwich. Prepare shredded cheeses, toppings, and sauces the night before and keep them refrigerated in small dishes, so all you have to do is set them out and get back to the action around the Christmas tree. For these, I set out pico de gallo, harissa, and mustard for the sauces, along with arugula for the greens. Pepper jack, shredded colby jack, and crumbled goat cheese made for a plethora of flavorful combinations. See what combos you can invent to satisfy every member of the family!
