For the Sausage Filling:
- 1 pound ground pork sausage
- 1 cup finely minced onion
- 2 clove garlic, minced
- 1 tbsp fresh parsley, minced
- 1/2 tsp dried thyme
- 1 tsp dried sage, (or 1 tablespoon fresh minced)
- 1/2 tsp ground black pepper
- 1 tsp Kosher salt
- 2/3 cup shredded White Cheddar Cheese
- 1/3 cup Dried Cranberries, finely chopped
For the Pastry:
- 1 sheet puff pastry (store-bought or homemade)
- 1 egg (for egg wash)
- 1 tbsp water (for egg wash)
- 1 Tbsp toasted sesame seeds, or Everything Bagel Seasoning
Instructions
- Prepare the Filling:
- In a mixing bowl, combine the ground pork sausage, finely chopped onion, minced garlic, parsley, thyme, sage, black pepper, salt, cheddar, and cranberries.
- Mix well until all the ingredients are thoroughly combined. You can use your hands or a spoon to ensure an even mix. Alternatively, you can also use a food processor and pulse to combine.
- Prepare the Pastry:
- Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C).
- Roll out the puff pastry sheet on a lightly floured surface. If using store-bought, follow the package instructions for thawing.
- Cut the pastry sheet into two equal-sized rectangles.
- Assemble the Sausage Rolls:
- Divide the sausage filling into two equal portions.
- Shape each portion into a long log and place it along one of the long edges of the pastry rectangles.
- Brush the opposite edge of the pastry with a egg and water mixed together. Roll the pastry over the sausage filling, sealing the edges to form a long roll. The egg wash helps to seal the pastry.
- Cut each roll into smaller pieces, about 2-3 inches long using a bread knife. Clean the knife if needed with each pass.
- Bake the Sausage Rolls:
- Place the rolls on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper.
- Brush the tops of the sausage rolls with the egg wash. Sprinkle with sesame seeds or Everything Bagel Seasoning.
- Bake in the preheated oven for 25-30 minutes, or until the pastry is golden brown and puffed up.
- Serve:
-
- Let the sausage rolls cool slightly before serving. They can be enjoyed hot or cold and are perfect with a side of mustard or a dipping sauce of your choice.
