A Day for Tech Free Baking
It’s truly not often I have make the excuse, or have a reason to go tech free. At any given time, my cellphone is attached to my hand, in my back pocket, or on the counter getting caked with flour. Last week changed everything when snow fell on Seattle. It’s not something that happens often, and pandemonium descends when it does. Power goes out, the cities shut down and quiet falls as softly as the snow. It’s something almost magical.
And this was the perfect day for me to willingly go tech free, and enjoy the simple act of baking again – something I haven’t done in a long, long time.Â
Though somehow my apartment kept power through the snow storm – a feat in itself – I turned off everything, the TV, the radio, MY CELL PHONE, lit the candles in our fire place and went about baking some chocolate chip cookies that Ben had been asking me to make. Pillsbury sent us a box FULL of mixes, and fun stuff to chronicle our tech free adventures, which mean I still got to capture it all on film – polaroid style!
In between batches of cookies, Huck and I went for a walk in the snow. Earlier that week he had been stuck in a cone and this gave him some much needed relief and fun to play in the white stuff.
A couple hours of quiet baking time is just what I needed on a crispy cold day. Between busy days at work, and finishing the cookbook, baking as a relaxing activity was becoming foreign to me. I breathed a little deeper, got to play with my puppy, read the stack of magazines that had piled up on our coffee table and even – TAKE A NAP! Who knew that a small batch of cookies could do so much.
And Ben got fresh baked cookies out of it. Everybody is a winner here. Pillsbury made this tech free day easy and fun. The baking mixes were fun and the combinations were endless. There are lots more baking days ahead. And we can’t wait.

This sounds like a great, relaxing day. My daughter got one of those cameras for Christmas and I want one for myself. I love the look of nostalgia in the photos that you don’t get with a fancy schmancy DSLR camera. SometimesÂ
This sounds like such an awesome day! Who really did know a small batch of cookies could do so much – baking truly is soooo rejuvenating sometimes!
I know that medical feeling of snow falling in the city! Even though Ig crew up in snowy Vermont, I’ve since moved to Portland and when it snows, no one leaves the house for a week. So I very much enjoy baking cookies and watching the snow fall!Â
I LOVE this. I need to go tech free more often!
I can’t wait to try that cookie mix! Isn’t the camera fun?
This day sounds absolutely magical. I need to unplug more!
That sounds like an absolutely perfect day! Â Cookies and no stress from social media drama! Â Love it!!!
Such a great day! And those cookies look delish! I could go for some right now!
